South Africa aims to be at the forefront of green hydrogen and derivatives production by utilizing its excellent renewable conditions and creating favorable government policies. With a large availability of land and some of the best renewable potential globally, South Africa has set ambitious green hydrogen targets such as aiming to be a major producer by capturing 4% of the global share by 2050.
South Africa has also gazetted 9 green hydrogen projects as Strategic Integrated Projects (SIP) making green hydrogen a strategic priority for the country. South Africa has also been active in developing relations with potential green hydrogen demand centres such as Japan, Germany, South Korea, etc., in a bid to fast-track the country’s growing hydrogen economy.
